An interactive tool to determine the potential impact on the net propulsion fuel consumption when operating a Flettner Rotor System.
This tool was developed using in-service performance data aquired from the Maersk Pelican that was fitted with a Flettner Rotor System (FRS) in September 2018. Lloyd's Register has used this data together with well-known ship performance calculation methods, published aerodynamic coefficients of generic merchant ship types, and average global wind statistics for the world's oceans, to develop the tool.
It provides an estimate of the propulsion fuel savings potential for many types of merchant ships when using a FRS, and for any trading route in the world. The tool has the flexibility to explore many types of ship partculars, FRS arranagments, sailing routes, operating profiles and seasonal variations.
